What Client Says

A large open-air square, the return to the stage of a band with a distinctive identity, and a strong response from the audience. CSI’s live show in Piazza Medford, Alba (CN) drew an impressive crowd, turning the expansive urban space into a large open-air venue and confirming the band’s enduring appeal. The event also received highly positive feedback on the sound, within a setting that presented specific challenges in terms of coverage distance and consistency.

La Fonderia Musicale S.r.l. was responsible for the sound system design and deployment, relying entirely on the dBTechnologies VIO Series. Across an audience area approximately 100 metres deep and 65 metres wide, the system was designed to maintain consistent SPL, clarity and intelligibility from the front rows through to the most distant sections.

The acoustic design, developed by Matteo Sanna using EASE Focus, showed a level variation within 0 dB ±5 dB in simulation, with no significant coverage gaps across the listening area.

The Main PA was built around 32 VIO L1610, divided into two 16-module arrays flown at a height of 10 metres. A -2.9° frame angle and progressive splay configuration were defined to provide uniform coverage from the front rows to the rear of the square, with dB Coupling set to B and HF Comp progressively scaled from 5 to 3.

For low-frequency reinforcement, 24 VIO S218 were ground-stacked in 12 stacks of two modules, forming a 20-metre-wide array. The symmetrical configuration used progressive delays from the centre towards the outermost stacks, ranging from 0 to 9.19 ms, calculated to control the array’s directivity within a 75° coverage angle.

Long-throw coverage was extended through two delay towers positioned 38 metres from the Main PA, each equipped with 8 VIO L1608 and time-aligned with the main system at 86.6 ms. A further 8 VIO L1608, four per side and flown at a height of 5 metres, operated as outfills to cover the lateral audience areas, while 6 VIO L208 distributed along the stage front completed coverage for the first rows. Signal routing was handled through a Prodigy MP matrix, with PA tuning and management carried out via Aurora Net.

Once the system was operational, the results reported by La Fonderia Musicale confirmed the effectiveness of the design and alignment choices. The combination of Main PA, Outfill and Delay ensured a smooth transition in sound pressure level without perceptible variations. The subwoofer arc array maintained a linear response throughout the audience area. The high attendance was successfully accommodated, with the audience expressing strong appreciation for the clarity of the sound and the tonal balance maintained throughout the entire event.
