What Client Says

Few locations carry the weight, beauty and atmosphere of Lucca’s historic walls. Built to protect the city and now transformed into one of its most extraordinary cultural backdrops, the Mura Storiche create a concert setting unlike any other: open, monumental and deeply connected to centuries of history. Here, music does not simply fill a venue; it moves through a landscape shaped by time.

For the 2026 edition, the Mura Storiche Area hosts some of the most anticipated shows of Lucca Summer Festival, welcoming Jamiroquai, Zucchero and Katy Perry to one of the festival’s most spectacular stages. Three very different artistic worlds — groove, Italian soul-rock and global pop — come together in a setting designed for large-scale emotions and unforgettable summer nights.

Delivering consistent, high-impact sound in such a vast and historically sensitive area requires a system capable of combining power, precision and control. The sheer extension of the venue, combined with the acoustic challenges of an open-air environment surrounded by monumental architecture, demands a carefully engineered approach. Yet these technical complexities ultimately fade into the background, overshadowed by the extraordinary beauty and atmosphere of one of Italy's most iconic live music locations.

Drawing on the experience gained over years of supporting productions at Lucca Summer Festival, dBTechnologies provided dedicated acoustic consultancy tailored specifically to the characteristics of the Mura Storiche Area. The system deployment was carried out by Tema Show Service, translating this design into a large-scale VIO configuration engineered to deliver consistency, intelligibility and musical impact across the entire audience area.
The main PA is built around 36 VIO L212 modules, configured in two hangs of 18 elements per side, providing the core coverage and headroom required for major international productions. Horizontal extension is handled by 24 additional VIO L212 modules deployed as outfills, 12 per side, ensuring tonal consistency across the wider audience areas.
To carry the performance deeper into the venue, a dedicated delay system features 24 VIO L212 modules, configured as 12 per side. This reinforcement extends clarity, timing and musical detail toward the furthest listening zones, preserving the connection between stage and audience across the entire area.

A distinctive feature of the venue is the exclusive VIP area running alongside the Renaissance walls, where eight dedicated skyboxes offer guests a privileged view of the stage. To provide the same high-quality listening experience enjoyed by the main audience, each skybox was equipped with a dedicated sound system based on VIO X310 loudspeakers paired with VIO S118R subwoofers in stacked configuration. This bespoke deployment ensured coherent coverage, tonal consistency and an immersive listening experience throughout the entire hospitality area, seamlessly integrating the VIP experience with the festival's main sound design.

Front-row coverage is entrusted to 20 VIO L1610 units, ensuring definition, presence and a smooth transition between the stage edge and the main arrays. Low-frequency energy is delivered through a hybrid subwoofer design combining 24 flown VIO S218F subwoofers, configured as 12 per side, with 24 ground-stacked VIO S218F subwoofers positioned across the stage front. This approach provides depth, pressure and control, supporting everything from tight funk grooves to arena-sized pop productions.

The result is a powerful and carefully balanced VIO deployment, engineered to respect the uniqueness of the Mura Storiche while delivering the scale expected from one of Italy’s landmark summer festivals. As the lights rise against Lucca’s ancient walls and thousands of voices gather beneath the night sky, the system becomes the invisible architecture of the experience: carrying every beat, every chorus and every moment across a place where history and live music meet.
