Scala Leverkusen achieves uncompromising audio quality and adaptability for high-calibre, complex live productions through its new VIO Systems installation.
With the installation of VIO sound reinforcement systems from dBTechnologies, the event venue Scala Leverkusen (Germany) has invested in a professional, scalable audio solution for concerts, cultural events, comedy shows and corporate formats. The planning and implementation were carried out in collaboration with Mecky Events under the project management of Fabian Stiens.
Scala Leverkusen is recognised not only for hosting its own events but also as a key venue for the prestigious Leverkusener Jazztage. This reflects the venue's diverse programming and highlights the stringent requirements for speech clarity, musical detail, and audio transparency in a permanent PA system. A core aim of this installation was to guarantee that both dynamic live music and spoken-word performances are reproduced with unwavering quality — all while ensuring a compact footprint and exceptional operational reliability.
System Design Focused on Consistency and Headroom
The installed VIO system comprises the following components:
• 2x 5 VIO L208 line-array modules (main PA), flown left and right in the truss
• 2x X205 frontfills, horizontally arranged in the truss
• 1x X12 centre fill, positioned centrally above the stage
• 4x S118R subwoofers, installed beneath the stage
The system was designed to achieve uniform SPL coverage across the entire audience. The VIO L208 modules offer precise vertical dispersion and responsive transient performance, while the X Series loudspeakers provide targeted nearfill and centre fill support. The S118R subwoofers deliver controlled low-frequency reinforcement with ample headroom for contemporary jazz and full-band shows.
The teams from Mecky Events and dBTechnologies focused on creating a seamless transition between the main PA, frontfills, and centre fill to ensure uniform audio quality in the front rows.
“Scala requires a system that is both flexible in use and capable of meeting professional touring standards. The VIO setup delivers exactly this combination of precision, power reserves and compact design. Especially during concerts as part of the Leverkusener Jazztage, we benefit from the clarity in musical reproduction,” explains Fabian Stiens from Mecky Events.
With the VIO platform, Scala Leverkusen benefits from a permanently installed system that readily adapts to diverse production needs — from comedy acts and small ensembles to large-scale stage events.
