Four days, seven stages, more than 50 international and national artists and bands, and 150,000 visitors - Jazz in Duketown
is the largest free jazz festival in the Netherlands
. In its 48th edition, the festival in s'Hertogenbosch
offered something for every taste - from "classic" jazz, funk jazz, big band, vocal jazz to electronic. Such different genres and line-ups can challenge many PA systems. Not so for the systems from dBTechnologies, used on several stages at the Jazz in Duketown. The organisers relied on a mix of dBTechnologies
active systems from the VIO
series for the stages at the Market
and the Museum
Rob Pigmans, Sales Manager Netherlands at dBTechnologies, explains the concept: "Jazz in Duketown has relied on dBTechnologies audio systems for several years. We are all the more pleased that the festival celebrated its 48th edition with our systems again after the Corona break. Using the different systems on various stages underlines their flexibility and compatibility."
At the Stage at the Market, 8 VIO L1610 line array modules each were installed right and left of the stage as hangs, completed by 8 S218 and 6 S118R (Cardioid) subwoofers. The VIO L1610 is the most potent active 3-way line array model from dBTechnologies. 3 DVA T8 units served as infills, and 8 VIO W15T wedges were used as stage monitors, ensuring that international stars and artists such as Donny McCaslin, Ghostnote or Tijn Wybenga AM.OK felt comfortable on stage in terms of sound.
Another stage at the festival was the Stage Kerkplein, whose programme featured smaller ensembles. Here, models of the DVA series set the tone. On the right and left, 1 DVA T12 was combined with 4 T8 units to form a line array. For the lower registers, 6 VIO S118R subwoofer units were available.
For the stage in front of the Noord-Brabants Museum, where artists presented the most versatile genre mix, 2 active 2-way Ingenia IG3T line speakers, arranged one below the other to the right and left of the stage, provided the sound. These were complemented by 4 Ingenia IG1T as in- and outfills and 4 VIO S118R subwoofers, and 8 Opera wedges on stage. Even with this relatively small line-up, the Ingenia models could convey all nuances and subtleties of the individual ensembles.
With all the different musical genres and line-ups on the individual stages, the dBTechnologies systems showed their versatility and a perfect interaction, as they harmonised perfectly. This applies to the sound properties, physical characteristics, and efficient things such as the problem-free combination and rigging of different models. With dBTechnologies' own Aurora Net control, the user can access all critical parameters for all systems, even in combined installations.
