On the occasion of the ART City 2025 exhibition, the dBTechnologies installation makes a significant contribution to the staging of an artistic multimedia project, with technical support designed and executed by the company Always Merged. The exhibition, by artist Anna Caterina Masotti, presents a visual display with clear and impactful acoustic interventions. In Thea Maris | Resonances of the Sea, the artist explores the classical Greek myth, using the striking beauty of the present: a young teenage woman and the stunning beaches of Maratea, both subjects captured in the ephemeral yet emblematic essence of their transformation.
The artistic project is set in one of Bologna's most evocative and hidden locations, the Conserva di Valverde (1563), an ancient engineering feat of great visual impact, which hosted the main exhibition featuring silk-chiffon printed canvases and a projection system with video and video-mapping, capable of conveying the genesis and concept of the piece on display.
A key part of the exhibition is the musical accompaniment, an original composition by Max Richter titled Little Requiems, which captures the essence of transformation and the sounds inspired by the images. To distribute the track, an acoustic distribution point was set up in the center of the octagonal room, which houses the water collection basins. This room has a central opening that connects the upper and lower levels and is topped by a large dome of the same shape. Here, a configuration of 4 IS6 speakers from the IS series, in combination with 6 projectors, was installed. The unique layout of the room and the entire structure made the installation challenging and required careful calibration, as it was subject to potential acoustic reflections due to the arrangement of the exhibited elements and the presence of water in the room.
The resulting sound was described by visitors, promoters, and technicians involved as "clear, immersive, and crystalline."
