With the installation of a new VIO sound reinforcement system from dBTechnologies, Stromwerk Dresden (Germany) – located within the Kraftwerk Mitte cultural complex – has invested in a future-proof audio solution designed to support a wide range of events. Planning, implementation and installation were carried out by Bayer Events under the direction of Kai Hentschel. The new operator, HMG Events, led by Thomas Röpke, has therefore opted for a forward-looking solution that delivers the flexibility required for all event formats.
Stromwerk Dresden is one of the region’s most versatile event venues, hosting a diverse programme that includes club nights, concerts, comedy, theatre, sporting events, and readings. Accordingly, the demands placed on the sound system are high: it must be powerful, reliable and adaptable.
A high-performance VIO Series setup was tailored for the venue:
• 16 VIO L1610 line array modules.
• 8 × VIO S218 subwoofers (end-fire configuration)
• 2 × A2Net Control 24A
• 2 × W15 monitors
• Full control and monitoring via Aurora Net
The main system comprises seven VIO L1610 modules per side, flown left and right of the stage, complemented by two additional VIO L1610 units as frontfills. This configuration ensures even coverage and excellent speech intelligibility throughout the audience area.
In the low-frequency range, eight VIO S218 subwoofers are expertly positioned in an end-fire configuration in front of the stage. This advanced setup delivers an exceptionally controlled and powerful low-end response, dramatically enhancing the impact of music events and ensuring consistently defined bass for all performances, while effectively minimising unwanted rearward radiation.
“The requirements at Stromwerk Dresden are extremely diverse. With the VIO system and full A2Net integration, we were able to realise a solution that operates at the highest level both sonically and technically, while offering maximum flexibility,” explains Kai Hentschel of Bayer Events.
For the installation, the team consistently relied on dBTechnologies’ A2Net technology. All audio and control signals are transmitted entirely digitally—from FOH to each individual loudspeaker. This architecture not only ensures maximum signal integrity without loss but also enables precise system control and outstanding operational flexibility. System management is handled centrally via Aurora Net, allowing real-time adjustment of every parameter for each module.
Final system tuning and optimisation were carried out with the support of Jochen Gotzen, Technical Director dBTechnologies Germany.
Since installation, the system has proven itself across numerous high-profile events, highlighting its versatility for both music- and speech-focused formats.
