Description

A complete makeover breathes vibrant life and new opportunities into a landmark building, enhancing its exceptional acoustics. For the Miejski Ośrodek Kultury Gniezno (Gniezno Municipal Cultural Center, or MOK), it took many years of design, research, planning, careful reflection, and problem-solving to achieve the outstanding result the property can be proud of today. In this historic town, once the capital of Polish culture, the municipal center serves as a gathering place for events, performances, and the presentation of art and culture. Originally a building from the 1950s, it was transformed into a modern, highly equipped cultural hub, thanks to the hard work of the technical teams and the ownership.

A crucial aspect for the Center was the acoustics of the auditorium. The implementation of a next-generation audio system became essential to deliver high sound quality and flexibility, considering the venue's theatrical features. The current sound system design has been meticulously studied and calibrated to meet all requirements. Continuous acoustic measurements were taken at each stage of the implementation to assess the impact of the hall’s shape, the materials used, and other factors on the acoustical effect.
The audio equipment was supplied and installed by official dBTechnologies partner SoundTrade, a company based in Piaseczno, selected by the general contractor with the full approval of the investor. For sound amplification in the auditorium, it was decided to use a VIO series setup: two main clusters of VIO C12 loudspeakers were suspended above the stage, each consisting of 3 broadband modules in a fixed-angle line array system. To ensure sound coverage in the front rows, a single central VIO X12 unit was installed. Bass frequencies are delivered by 3 VIO S118R subwoofers, which can be repositioned or replaced according to needs. To provide additional sound in the rear area, two VIO X205-100 units were installed.
The entire sound system configuration is now managed through the network module, CONTROL 8, allowing remote control and system configuration.

The choice of the VIO C setup stems from its extended vertical dispersion, which ensures uniform coverage with fewer modules—something that couldn’t be achieved with the same number of elements in a traditional line array system. This solution combines the benefits of both line array and point source systems, delivering high efficiency across the entire length of the room.
SoundTrade was the supplier and integrator for the project, working in cooperation with Stage Source, a company responsible for lighting and video solutions.
The completion of the work and the debut of the new hall were warmly welcomed with enthusiasm by both the staff and external professionals. As highlighted by the facility’s director, Dariusz Pilak: “The hall is among the best currently operational in the Gniezno district. This is confirmed by both the artists performing in this hall and the audience."
