At the Exchange 1856 in North Shields, two consecutive sold-out nights reaffirmed LiNDiSFARNE’s enduring appeal and the unmistakable vitality of their live performance. Decades after first capturing the public imagination with “Fog on the Tyne”, “Meet Me on the Corner” and “Lady Eleanor”, the band continues to command audiences with a sound that is both richly textured and dynamically demanding.
Such musical breadth calls for a system capable not merely of power, but of poise.
For these landmark shows, Viking Productions deployed its newly introduced dBTechnologies ViO L1608 line array system, partnered with ViO S218 subwoofers, in what marked the system’s inaugural engagement before a full-capacity audience. It was a debut defined by authority and finesse in equal measure.
The instrumentation alone presented a formidable brief: multiple acoustic guitars — both six and twelve string — interwoven with mandolin, fiddle and percussive accents, all set against the backbone of drums, bass, electric guitar, keyboards and layered vocals. The expanded headroom and articulate transient response of the ViO L1608 ensured that each element retained its integrity within the mix, while the S218 subwoofers delivered depth and weight without obscuring the finer detail. Even in the face of an exuberant and animated crowd, every nuance carried effortlessly across the room.
“The system performed impeccably,” remarks Steve Williams of Viking Productions. “There was a real sense of composure about it. Every detail translated with clarity, and the additional headroom made a tangible difference — particularly for the acoustic instruments, which sat beautifully in the mix without ever feeling constrained.”
Front-of-house engineer Sparx echoed this sentiment, noting the system’s musical transparency and consistency throughout both performances — early validation of Viking Productions’ strategic decision to invest in the VIO platform.
With a debut of such calibre, the VIO L1608 and VIO S218 configuration did more than rise to the occasion; it provided a sonic framework worthy of a band whose legacy continues to evolve, proving that precision engineering and musical sensitivity can, and should, coexist on today’s live stage.
