The new passive IS series from dBTechnologies has added another dimension to its range of uses. Even in private settings, the IS Series proves its versatility and reliability, as demonstrated by a comprehensive installation in a loft in Augsburg, Germany. Michael Wiedemann of JM Light & Sound advised the owner on a sound system that performs reliably and is adaptable to individual rooms. The system’s use cases range from standard applications, such as background music or TV audio, to more demanding scenarios like parties, where the speakers need sufficient headroom to deliver exceptional performance.

Wiedemann and the homeowner decided on an audio system featuring passive IS units specifically designed for the installation market. Multiple amplifiers and an NAD network player power the IS speakers. Another key goal of the installation was to divide the loft into eight audio zones, each individually controllable via the NAD preamplifier, allowing the EQ and loudness parameters of the speakers to be customised.

The penthouse spans two levels and features 17 IS5T units and 6 IS12S subwoofers. The IS5T speakers seamlessly blend into the apartment’s architecture, installed in black or white on the ceiling, depending on the design requirements. The IS12S subwoofers are strategically placed on the floor.
